We open on a young woman alone in her lounge room. It’s daytime, but the lighting in the room is dark and dingy.
M.V.O: When you smoke you inhale over 4,000 chemicals.
We cut to a close up as she raises a cigarette to her mouth and lights it. As we cut back we see that the cigarette has become a test tube. At the base of the test-tube is a clear liquid which we see bubble and turn into a sticky, brown substance. We zoom in closer on the sticky brown fluid as it begins to boil and froth.
M.V.O: It’s a toxic, poisonous mix of substances. Including Ammonia – the bleach in toilet cleaner… Acetone, the chemical in nail polish remover… Benzene, found in paint stripper … And Hydrogen Cyanide, used in rat poison.
M.V.O: And smoking delivers it straight into your body.
S.F.X: We hear her inhale as if taking a drag on a cigarette.
We see the dark smoke get sucked up the test tube and straight into her mouth.
S.F.X: A small cough.
We then cut to a close up of a warning label on a cigarette packet. The warning label changes to coincide with the voice over.
MVO: So it’s no surprise that smoking causes mouth cancer
(As the mouth cancer warning label appears.)
MVO: … gangrene…
(As the gangrene warning label appears.)
MVO: … and harms unborn babies.
(As the unborn baby label appears.)
M.V.O: Every cigarette is doing you damage. Now is the time to quit.
