In January 2011, the Chief Medical Officer Professor Jim Bishop AO, wrote to all Australian General Practitioners (GPs) to seek their support of the National Tobacco Campaign 2011. Specifically, the Chief Medical Officer appealed to GPs to mention the campaign to smokers and conduct a brief intervention to encourage them to quit.
