National Aged Care Nursing Roundtable - Final Report (html version)
The purpose of the Roundtable was to provide an opportunity to discuss an agenda to build national, state and local partnerships between universities, aged care, primary and acute care sectors. These partnerships can improve the care provided to older people by bringing more skilled registered and enrolled nurses and care workers into the aged care workforce.
The Roundtable was a positive forum which confirmed the need to acknowledge and celebrate the key role that aged care nurses play in the provision of team based comprehensive primary care for older Australians.
The Report from the Roundtable identifies key areas for action around the role and skills base of aged care nurses, undergraduate clinical placements, graduate programs, clinical standards and teaching nursing homes. It also identifies longer term areas for action about ensuring that quality and regulatory frameworks support quality care and the development of a clearinghouse for dissemination of research and innovative practice.
These recommendations have been referred to the Minister for Ageing’s Aged Care Workforce Committee for consideration and advice.
